So much of what we think we know about smoking or stopping smoking or any other substance addiction is based pure misconception.
The reality is that as a smoker or the person we seek affirmation from other smokers and addicts and formulate distorted viewpoints that become our own versions of “normality”. (Non smokers would not humour our justifications for being addicts)
So many smokers and addicts being the “movers and shakers” of our society we become so dogged in our viewpoints on nicotine addiction that even non-smokers at times buy into the smokers charade.
How many times have we heard this sort of nonsense
- Ooh don’t take away his smokes or there will be hell to pay?
- Smoking pipe tobacco / cigars is not “as bad” as cigarettes
- Doctor said I can have up to 5 light cigarettes a day with
- Got to die of something sooner or later?
- I’m not addicted I can stop any time,
- My grandfather smoked till he was 103 and died the day he stopped smoking
- I smoke when I am stressed
- I smoke when I’m board
- I smoke socially
- I smoke because my partner smokes
- I smoke because my work colleagues smoke
- I only smoke my brand of cigarettes as it part of the lifestyle I choose
- I enjoy smoking too much to quit
- It my only vice, everyone should be allowed one
- He will be fine after he comes back from his cigarette
- etc, etc
The list of excuses as to why smokers continue to smoke is almost infinite but we can boil it down to just ONE EXCUSE.
- Smokers smoke because they are ADDICTED to NICOTINE.
Nicotine addiction is the ONE and ONLY reason so many smokers don’t immediately STOP smoking.
SMOKERS can make up a million different excuses if they like but the FACT remains that NICOTINE is the only culprit every time.
There is no assigned “effect” or positive outcome as far as nicotine is concerned, you don’t get high, you don’t get low, you dont get anything other than an uneasy feeling that only stops when you re introduce more nicotine to you blood stream.
Thus logically speaking if you get no benefit from being addicted to NICOTINE
- Absolutely NO VALID reason TO smoke.
- Nicotine itself DOES NOTHING positive for you.
- Nicotine is PURE ADDICTION
For if other smokers ACTUALLY addressed a chemical as the sole reason for them to be a smoker the other arguments all fall flat. The first step to addiction recovery is to identify the problem and accept that it exists.
When you have lived a lie for so long it almost becomes the truth that you believe and the cycle you are having to break becomes that much more difficult.

It’s not a boring sermon on all the horrors of smoking nor will I try pitch some miracle product. This is the simple account of an ex smoker and how after many years of dogged perseverance I just stopped smoking one day without drugs, side effects or cravings.
