An effective rehab programme is one that has to take a lot of things into account, including the patient’s past and their personality. While many programmes are different, as long as they have the basic detoxification process and therapy, they will be able to meet the needs of every patient.
An effective programme is one that can treat not just the addiction, but also the underlying causes and this is often referred to as dual therapy. It is a type of programme that heals the physical effects of drug abuse on the body and the mental dependency on drugs. The underlying psychological issues are also addressed and dealing with these helps a patient see why they became addicted in the first place.
When checking a patient into rehab they will be asked tough questions, including how long they have been suffering from addiction, what substances they have been using and what kinds of treatment they have had in the past. All of these questions are asked to determine the mental and physical state of the patient, and to give them the best possible care that will lead them to recovery.
A treatment facility will usually have a lot more than just therapy to offer a patient. Some will have stables that allow patients to take care of the animals there, or may offer yoga lessons to help patients learn how to take care of their bodies and quiet their minds so that they can heal themselves. All of these however, have the same goal, that is, to treat the patient effectively and teach them how to become contributing members of society.
The path of self-destruction that addicts are on is a terrible one to behold and this is why rehab is needed. The rehab interrupts this process and gives patients a chance to live with the hope of a better life. Whether they reach it or not is really up to them and they need to totally commit to the process and to the work they must do in order to get better. Without this commitment, they sadly will not see results.
